Quantum optical synthesis in 2D time–frequency space

Conventional optical synthesis, the manipulation of phase and amplitude spectral components to produce an pulse in different temporal modes, is revolutionizing ultrafast science metrology. These technologies rely on Fourier transform light fields between time frequency domains one-dimensional space. However, within this treatment it impossible incorporate quantum correlation among photons. Here we expand synthesis into high dimensional space deal with correlation, carry out experimental demonstration by manipulating two-photon probability distribution a biphoton two-dimensional As potential application, show heralded single-photon wave packet, which never explained conventional optics. Our approach opens up new pathway tailor characteristics packet quantum-mechanical treatment. We anticipate such could bridge research optics measurements.
